The Elephant Cave
The Elephant Cave is one of the most fascinating dive sites in Chania. It gained its name from the discovery of fossilized elephant remains belonging to the extinct species Elephas chaniensis, estimated to be over 50,000 years old. Fossilized deer bones were also found in the cave, adding to its archaeological importance.
Inside the cave, divers are surrounded by white and red stalactites and stalagmites, creating a magical underwater atmosphere. Freshwater pools and crystal clear visibility enhance the experience, making this cave a highlight of cave diving in Chania.
The Seal Cave (Fokia)
The Seal Cave, locally known as Fokia, is a massive cavern system made up of several interconnected chambers. The cavern is so large that RHIB boats can enter, offering a dramatic and unforgettable approach to the dive.
The cave takes its name from sightings of the Mediterranean monk seal, one of the rarest marine mammals in the world. Light rays entering the cavern, combined with colorful sponges and marine life, create an impressive and peaceful dive environment.
